Firstly, sincere apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I am hoping to port my old hand-coded site to the Modern World of WP but do not wish to loose my top ranking with the search engines.
However my problem is, how can I get my new WP to reside in the root of my domain, where it is already occupied with the old hand-coded pages?
My thoughts are;
1: Move the entire ‘old’ site to a ‘legacy’ sub-directory, and 301 every single page individually in .htaccess – i.e domain.com/legacy/everything here…. thus maintaining its functionality and hopefully ranking
2: Install a fresh WP into the root of domain.com
3: Manually re-create all pages one at a time [ a long job but excellent opportunity to tidy up!]
4: As each page is re-created in WP, manually change the corresponding 301 to point to the new WP page URL
Would this softly-softly process be a wise one, or can anyone please suggest a more sensible approach?
Thank you very much for reading this, your wise guidance will be greatly appreciated!
