Hello,
By default, when selecting an attribute to use for a product (when editing a product in admin backend), only the title of the attribute is shown in the selection field for the global attributes in the product data table – the same applies to the term of an attribute as well. I was wondering if there is a filter/hook to help echo either the attribute and/or term slug along with the Attribute/Term Title, in the Attribute selection box, in Product Data when editing a product. One or the other way would work, I can adjust my structure/classifications to suit.
For one example, we sell air cleaner assemblies for vehicles, some of which are available with different colored air filters for cosmetic purposes. Let’s assume Product A and Product B both offer this filter-type selection via image-type swatch with attribute of “Filter Type” and the Terms being the potential color choices of filter with an image to represent each filter type option, However “Filter Type: Black” for product A is different than “Filter Type: Black” For product B. Product A’s black filter has a stainless steel mesh, whereas product B’s black filter has a black mesh over top. The Term “Black” is entered twice under the attribute “Filter Type”, with each term entry referring to a different slug (slug= “blk-blkmesh) vs (slug=”blk-steelmesh”). There are several products that share mutual Attribute titles, but with “potentially mutual” (based on title) terms varying from product to product.
As indicated initially, the slugs for attributes/terms themselves are not shown when editing a product to apply to appropriate attribute and term option.
I’ve strategically determined the best attribute/term structure to avoid this as much as possible, however it is simply inevitable in some cases as this is required due to our range of product offerings, and due to space requirements and overall simplicity of UX I would rather not specify every single detail about “a black item” in it’s term title in order to differentiate from others.
I’m hoping there’s a quick filter/hook that might be able to adjust this functionality? as I don’t want to begin “numbering” my attributes like “Black 1″, and for overall tidiness reasons I want to avoid over-specifying titles with details such as title=”Black Filter – Stainless Steel Mesh”.. as far as the customer is concerned, since Product A only has one “Black” Term to choose, all they need to see is “Filter Type: Black” as the product image shows them there is a stainless mesh, and description will take care of explaining this.
