This lag occurred before with this plugin and I did post here in this forum (link to other post), but apparently the lag issue while editing is still a major problem with this plugin.
Using FireFox (version: 56.0.4.1 / 64bit), with browser options “Search for text while typing” and “Check your spelling while you type” turned off.
Any extensions/plugin to the browser all turned off.
Problem
Moving the cursor with the arrow keys is Ok.
Moving cursor forward with spacebar or with backward backspace key – lag occurs, several seconds have to pass before the cursor responds in the WordPress editor. This is even using the “Text” view of the editor content.
Typing words there is a lag and backspacing to erase a letter or two suffers the lag.
This is not workable with sites, especially when there is a lot of work to do in the content. This lag greatly increases the time (total time) to complete the work on one page, let alone several pages.
Testing Done
Ok, I need to say this first, I am NOT promoting other SEO plugins with the following information, I list them here as part of a test. I have not tested these other SEO plugins for their SEO abilities, I only used them to test this current editing lag issue. So here are the results.
All In One SEO – Slight delay (about 1/2 sec), but workable.
Squirrly SEO 2018 – less delay than All in one, better editing performance.
WP Meta SEO – same performance as All in One SEO

The other SEO plugins perform better than Yoast SEO in this editing lag issue. Obviously their coding design does not cause editing lag issues, so it can be what things Yoast does that these others do not do that causes the lag issue.
Again, there is NO test done and NO comparsion to the SEO performance of these other plugins to Yoast.
Maybe with this information, Yoast can do something to fix this issue, because my preference would have been Yoast, except this lag issue, for what work I need to do, kills any use of Yoast.
What I am going to do is wait with the hopes that Yoast fixes this soon, since the project I am doing on can wait a bit before using any SEO plugin. This says I deleted all SEO plugins from my project site and if Yoast fixes this lag issue, I will return to Yoast when the site is ready to use a SEO plugin.
