I saw that sidebar menu looks a lot better on this site https://colorlib.com/sparkling/ than on my site. I have latest WP version and theme but I couldn’t find the settings to make featured images appear next to post title. Also if I check the option to add the date, it appears in the same line (http://imgur.com/a/gj8Hc).

edit:figured out there are two widgets; recent and popular post so now it works. 🙂
