Hi,
We tried updating a website of a client, one we did not build ourselves.
Before we update, we always make duplicator backups, this showed a rather large database which also prevented the creation of a good backup.
Upon checking I could see over a million rows in the wp_options table, and most of them were from wp_sessions -> usually expired.
I deleted the rows manually, which reduced the database size to < 16MB from > 300MB.
And solved my problem.
I think the site was not updated for 1+ year, But I would like to know if this amount of rows will grow again, or that in current updated version of WordPress this is handled automatic.
Or does this indicate something else wrong were we should have a look at while updating. a file/script that should take care of this.
I would like to prevent this growth from happening again, if possible.
Running a SQL command once in a while is not a problem, but seems unnecessary.
Kind regards,
Martijn
