Deleting a “Kategori” from a URL

I want to delete the “Kategori” parameter from the URL. When I do this from the permanent links field, I get a 404 error because the entire url structure on my site has changed. Is there a method where I won’t get a 404 error after removing the /Kategori/ parameter?
