I was sick of a bloated and expensive theme/page builder that did not live up to the hype.
When Gutenberg and all the block plugins appeared it was a complete no-brainer to switch from Divi to GeneratePress and the premium plugin, although that involved a complete rebuild of that site.
Download speed was immediately improved and theme customisation was so simple.
I was so pleased with it I changed another 2 sites that had been using other themes without a page builder, so in those cases the switch was very easy.
Definitely recommend the premium version, although I have no knowledge of using it without the premium plugin.
