Changing link color on Twenty Fifteen

I am having an issue changing link colors on the Twenty Fifteen theme. I can easily change the a:link, a:visited, a:hover, and a:active classes, but I want to keep the menu colors separate.

I have tried to create a new class for just the menu and adding it to the CSS classes for the menu item but it didn’t change.

Any help?
