CPU/Memory Spikes – V. SLOW site

Hi All –

Something happened to my site… I have not used it in some time or maintained it for that matter… But i have noticed it is now VERY slow…. and i often see memory errors when logged into wp-admin.

Hostgator hosting support tells me they see CPU and memory spikes… but I don’t know why. The site is not very big and I have minimized plugins and updated all software. I have done the basics like set up cache etc… But I think the issue is something other than the normal optimization basics…

I am trying to pre cache every page and smush every image… But am having trouble due to out of memory errors.

The site is taking 30 to 60 seconds or more to load so has crashed in SEO and traffic… Traffic is near dead from what was 1k to 2k page views per day about a year or so ago when i last looked…

I found one plugin (check broken links) creating heaps of errors. So, i just deleted that plugin.

The only error I see now in the wordpress error log is this:

[17-Aug-2017 19:42:09] PHP Notice: get_settings is deprecated since version 2.1.0! Use get_option() instead. in /home2/redback/public_html/ecoble.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3831

I am not sure what this is or how to fix….

Does anyone know please how to diagnose CPU/Memory problems and root causes? Something that is causing these very long site loads? Or I guess/assume casuing it.

Thanks,
Brett
