Can we create use the API to add points for external tasks

I need to get a gamification engine and BadgeOS looks good. Can you use the API to add points for external tasks.

Say for example we have a custom application and when they complete a task in that application, can we add points to a user in BadgeOS or is it only useable for WordPress tasks triggers?
