I have been using Askimet for many years now, and I’m super happy with it, and highly recommend it! Askimet filters 99.65% of the spam comments, which saves me a ton of work.
Unfortunately, the amount of spam users registering is mind blowing.
Daily I catch up to 100 spam registrations, even though I use reCHAPTCHA, they still come though.
An idea I may be to include detection of spam users, and mark them automatically as “spammer” (in the “Users” overview in the admin pages).
StopForumSpam provides a free API (https://www.stopforumspam.com) that may be of help with this. It is a little over my head to implement this myself, and I can imagine more and more WordPress sites experience the same problem.
I did find a few plugins supporting this, but they are either abandoned, no longer updated, or massive …
Anyhow … Just a suggestion to think about, not a requirement.
