NextGEN gallery Go forward arrows time out on desktop but not mobile

I’m using NextBGEN galleries (basic thumbnails) to showcase my art work. The arrows freeze when you click on them to go to the next image. The message reads “page unresponsive” and I have to exit the site and relaunch. This does not happen on mobile, just desktop
