I was looking for a plugin to organize my media folder. I decided to try FileBird.
I was having some problems with it using a popular LayerSlider plug-in. I went to deactivate it and found a few VERY CONCERNING surprises.
1. When you try to activate it a pop-up is displayed REQUIRING you to send information to the plug-in developers why you’re deactivating the plug-in. There is no way not to send something. You CAN’T opt out of it. They now have a lot of your information. Your site, your ip, etc. I’m so sick of companies walking all over peoples privacy.
2. This is the most concerning. When you deactivate and or delete lots of information is left behind. When you create a new…post/page etc. The function of adding FileBird Images is still an option. In some areas when uploading media it still allows you to create a folder if when the plug-in is deactivated.
After a little research, I found you have to re-install the plug-in go to settings. And in setting is a checkmark that states something like “remove all data”. You have to check that.
Then deactivate the plug-in. That’s when all that extra garbage is removed.
So…instead of a pop-up forcing you to take…Why not a pop that says if you want to delete our plugin and not leave FileBird extras behind you have to go to our settings and click “remove”???
That makes a lot more sense…ahh common sense. What a wonderful thing!
