SQL + PHP Shortcode Outputs – How to refresh cache at a shorter interval?

Hi,

I have an issue which I am facing on a number of sites I have developed with regards to custom calendar widgets. I have SQL tables which are used to store date and timing data for custom events and activities which I then call via PHP and output on-page with Shortcodes.

This data changes daily and I need to be able to have those page areas refresh at 12am every day. I’ve tried to do this by enabling ESI and setting the ESI period to 0 (to test if it works initially), but unfortunately I am still having to force purge the entire cache for these widget areas to update.

Please could you help with this?
