Best way to handle merging contacts in Salesforce

I’m seeing scenarios where There is a Contact A and Contact B in Salesforce. Contact B is synced to WP as a user. That user has a username and password and accesses a dashboard on the website.

Contact B turns out to be a duplicate of Contact A so they are merged. This essentially deletes Contact B. The same email was used for both contacts.

Deleting is not included as a trigger action in the sync so that user record remains intact in WP.

Contact A takes action that triggers the sync from SF to WP.

The behavior I’m seeing is the user record (which was tied to Contact B who doesn’t exist anymore) stays the same. And no new record is created for Contact A.

Is there a way, either automatically or manually, to force WP to be “re-synced” with Contact A so that further edits to Contact A will reflect in the original WP User record?

Here is further context: Some developers added lots of customizations that I don’t have the skillset to interpret and wondering if their work is getting in the way. When I try to edit the SF Contact ID through the UI of the User record and save, it reverts back to the old SF ID. I’d like to confirm that this UI is part of Object Sync for Salesforce and not a product of custom development. Screenshot is in this google doc since I can’t add a pic: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ful3D_UJfvj9bwCmST0C_v6G8yx3-_5EKoQ6RolMk0E/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks for any insight!
