Hello all. I think I am a bit lost. I’m new to WordPress (only started this year). I installed WordPress on Synology (using the package), then after the security updates manually upgraded to the latest version. I have a few plugins (JetPack, Akismet, WordFence), used theme twenty sixteen. Nothing non-standard. So far no issues.
Yesterday I was working on my site, and I admit being stupid enough to try multiple things at the same time so I don’t know what went wrong. The first time I saw a problem was when trying to upload a too large video (larger than the PHP memory and upload file size). I thought no issue, I’ve seen this before. I tried to increase the limit size but that didn’t help, so I reversed the settings.
I then tried to upload a (small) picture to the media library and also got an “http-error”. Found a couple different suggestions/solutions on the web, tried them, reversed them every time but nothing worked (including changes to the .htaccess, disabling and even removing all plugins…). I still can’t upload anything.
As I was spending time with wordpress anyway, I was looking into a new theme (didn’t take the time before). I tried a couple. All of a sudden, my sidebar was gone. No issue, went back to twenty sixteen. It was partially gone, and none of my changes were saved. Customizer also didn’t save anything anymore. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the exact theme it was, but I have uninstalled it for sure.
I tried to write a post. All of a sudden, that didn’t work anymore either. When I do it from my phone, it works. I also can’t react from the browser on blog messages…
I did a re-install (manually). Didn’t change anything. I did a database cleanup & database repair, no success. I completely de-installed the package and re-installed (using the original database), still the same situation. I now discovered that I even can’t update plugins.
I enabled debugging but the log doesn’t show anything significant or relevant (there is a couple of messages but nothing that I think is related).
I honestly can’t think of anything anymore I can do to fix it. I’ve been looking in PHP settings (running on 5.6), changing server between Apache 2.2 and 2.4 but no difference.
I get the feeling that it’s something really stupid, maybe related to PHP or something, but I really have no clue and I’m not an expert on this to know where I really need to look.
It would be very much appreciated if someone can help me out, because I’m giving up.
