ReSample The background images – Page Speed

I hope this information can help others.

In the premade templates, the background images are very large, usually over 4000px wide. The image file size also is large, which is around 1 mb or larger.

It is usually not the image size that affects page loading speed, especially in mobile devices, it is the file size that creates the issue.

What is needed to better page loading speed is to take the image of a template, open it in an editor and re-sample it when re-saving it. This is not resizing it, it is changing the quality of the image when saving, especially JPG images.

I use Photoshop and since these template background images are quite good in pixel density, I can re-sample the quality down to about 20-30 % to save the image in a size that is less than 400 kb, which is quite a lot from a file size of 1400 kb (1.4 mb) or more, and the image still looks really good.

I tested a sample page with Google page speed and with the template unchanged, the page speed was around 80% rating. When I replaced the background image with a re-sampled one (same image), the page speed rating jumped to 97% or more.

Suggestion – So for those making landing pages to promote a business etc, I suggest to replace the template background image with a re-sampled one, even if the image is the same as the template one.

As a last comment, the thing I like about this plugin to create landing pages is that the pages, even with large background (re-sampled) images loads fast in mobile browsers, versus other page builders like WPBakery or Elementor, which slow page loading down.
