Parse error: syntax error after replacing .htaccess

I have been having trouble with my site not displaying the activated theme and media. In the course of attempting to fix that, I tried replacing my .htaccess file, and as soon as I did that I broke the site and now get the following error message in place of my site:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /nfs/www/WWW_pages/joquigle/100pctjosh.com/wp-settings.php on line 356

I have access to my files via ftp, and have replaced the wp-settings.php file with a fresh version downloaded from wordpress. In addition I also replaced the wp-admin and wp-includes folders with fresh downloads, but I’m still getting the same error message. I’ve never edited the wp-settings file, but regardless it shouldn’t have a syntax error since I’ve replaced it with a clean version.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
