Add multiple images to the Footer

I’d like to add multiple images into the website footer next to my copyrights. Some will link to other websites, others won’t.

What’s the best way to do this to ensure the images stay in line and correctly formatted according to size and space of the footer area?

I’ve tried adding custom code for one of the images as a test but it doesn’t show when I publish.
