How to conduct default search on page load?

I see this plugin uses the DataTables jQuery plugin. I saw on the DataTables site that it is possible to perform a default search on page load. For example, when the page loads it automatically searches for “dogs.”

I’ve been unsuccessful so far getting this to work. If anyone has any tips please let me know.
